Results of the study: (i) the sematic and cultural features of English idioms containing the word hand; (ii) the similarities and differences of English idioms containing the word hand with the Vietnamese equivalents in terms of semantic and cultural features; (iii) possible implications for translating, teaching and learning English idioms containing the word hand and reference to the Vietnamese equivalents. Conclusion: This study has presented the overview English idioms with their basic features and some previous studies relating to the research area of the thesis. Basing on this background and the data collection, an investigation into semantic and cultural features of English idioms containing the word hand, have been conducted to give a detailed description of this specific group of English idioms with reference to the Vietnamese equivalents. Consequently, a number of similarities and dissimilarities between English idioms containing the word hand, and their Vietnamese equivalents has been found to help finding out some possible implication for translating, teaching and learning English idioms containing the word hand.
